Find Accommodation near 'Millennium Stadium Tours Cardiff'

The Millennium Stadium is the national stadium of Wales, it is located in Cardiff and was completed in 1999 when Wales hosted the Rugby World Cup. It is the home of the Wales national rugby union team and the Wales national football team. Because the pitch is palletised and can be removed, it is also host to many other large scale events including concerts, speedway and monster trucks.

Tours of the stadium enable visitors to see behind scenes and for many ardent rugby union  fans the highlight of the experience is to visit the 'Dragon's Lair' changing rooms of the home side.

The tours start from the WRU shop located on Westgate street between gates 3 and 4. Access from the car park to the shop is up the steepish entrance ramp so manual wheelchair users may require assistance. A wheelchair lift enables access to the shop (see photo) and there is a further lift to the Cardiff Arms cafe/bar which also contains memorabilia.

There is wheelchair access to the small audio theatre (located at the rear of the shop) where a short introductory film is played.

From here visitors who cannot manage a long flight of steps will be escorted back to the car park where they can enter the stadium through a large lift and meet up again with the tour party and guide.

A large lift is then used to access different levels of the stadium during the tour. Some aspects of the experience such as the press desk in the Ray Gravell suite and the Presidents box terrace are not fully wheelchair accessible however the tour guide makes the event  interesting and informative and even those visitors not passionate about the sport can be caught up in the spirit of Welsh nationalism the stadium evokes.

Visitors with limited mobility would be advised that there is a lot of walking involved and the tour which takes approximately 1 hour moves at quite a pace.

There is a radar key operated designated toilet located in the cafe (this contains a wheeled baby changing unit which must be removed first to allow access so all wheelchair users will need assistance) and also further toilets on all levels of the stadium (with room for lateral transfer) so please indicate to the tour guide if you require them.
